6.1 Lecture
This week's first video presented the 10 things that companies look for in an individual when they are choosing new hires. These traits include: dependable, communication, solve problems, teamwork, pro active, integrity, flexibility, confidence, learn, technical skills. I think that I am confident in the skills that I have but in terms of what I'm lacking, it's the technical skills. The only for me to develop those skills is to practice everyday which is what I'm doing by coding for at least an hour a day.
This lecture also presented great resources to use on the CSUMB website. Personally, I have used their resources such as the jobs portal, talking to the career counselor Thomas to look over my resume, and applied to internships on their portal. They also have a resume building page with video tutorials on how to properly make a resume which I have found to be helpful.
6.2 Writing Lab
This week I will be continuing to write my paper. I have talked to Prof. Robertson about my paper and I have a general understanding of what I need to do to correct it. I have to elaborate more on the ethical portions and cut out a lot of unnecessary things on that paper.
6.3 Team Meeting With Instructors
We are meeting with instructors again this week to discuss our progress. I like these meetings a lot because it keeps us on track and get relevant updates on what's to come. Communication is important for this program since it's online and I feel like it has been going real well.
6.4 Create ILP Portfolio Website Shell
This week, I created a website that is separate from the learning journal. It is a portfolio of the classes and projects that I will have completed throughout my time here at CSUMB. I like how I'm starting to document everything that I do. It makes the learning a lot more meaningful instead of learning something and putting it to the side like I have been doing in the past with my coursework.
6.5 Preview CST338 Software Design - with Java
This module goes over our next class and what we will be doing there and goes into self study tools for Java. This is a good reminder and refresher on Java since some people might not have been coding with it for a while.
6.6 Cover Letter and Resume
This module focused on writing a cover letter and resume for our future self after completing the course. It is a good exercise to be able to visualize the skills that you hope to accomplish at school and out of school. It's good to have a goal in mind and being able to picture what you want out of this program.
6.7 Ethics Argument Paper Draft/Team Review
This module we looked over each other's papers and helped each other peer review them. After doing so, I've learned about robotics in healthcare and issues with addicting technology. This is a good exercise to help one another succeed and give constructive criticism.
6.8 Team meeting
This week we also discussed what our capstone project ideas were. My teammates had interesting ideas but I do not know what I want to make yet. I still go about my day thinking about a problem in my everyday life and seeing how i can fix that. We also went over and split up the duties for our final presentation project which was good. now we know what to do for our presentation which is due later this week.
