5.1 Support and Comment on Teammates' Goals
My teammates goals are similar to mine in that we all want to have an internship and job after graduation. My teammates are highly motivated individuals and despite their circumstances, whether it's family or full time work, or both, they are able to put in the time and energy into this program in order to succeed. I like how we all have clear goals about what we want out of the program and our careers. This will only motivate me to do better.Teammates Blogs: Cheuk : Link Matthew: Link Paola: Link
5.2 Two Possible Capstone IdeasAfter seeing the Capstone presentations, I am not sure about what EXACT problem that I want to solve but I know I want to make a phone app. I have no app building skills so I will take the time out of class to make apps and learn on my own. I've started watching Stanford's CS iOS development course and I am planning on doing those daily. I will definitely be mindful and attentive with my surroundings in order to see what project I want to do in the future. 5.3 Learning Journal5.4 Module 4 Intro This week's overview intro module goes over many topics including developing a capstone idea, developing video/presentation skills for future assignments, preparing for internships. As for lecture topics, we will be learning about inferences and assumptions, describing argumentative essays, defining loaded words, and identifying types of logical fallacies.5.5 Module 5 Lecture
This lecture introduces the capstone project ideas that we will be doing towards the end of the program. It's important that I start to think about it this early so that I am able to figure out the problem that I want to address and solve along with figuring out what skills I need in order to create a solution. This lecture also provides resources on how to make YouTube videos and tips on how to pursue an Internship. I am going to start a Google Doc now to keep track of internship positions that I've applied to. I think it's important to keep a record so that you can quantify your goals because an idea is just an idea so you have to turn it into reality.
Module 5.6 Lecture: Writing Lab
This lecture was on writing an argumentative essay. The topics covered were inferences/assumptions, loaded words, and logical fallacies. It is important to keep these ideas in mind become while some may enhance your writing others will weaken it. I have summarized what I have learned below.Inferences: Inferences are conclusions that you make based on something else being true thus you are making an educated guess about something. This is important in an argumentative essay because the writer must infer what the audience will think about when reading the paper. Different readers are also able to make different inferences based on their view points.
Assumptions: Assumptions are made when we presuppose something or condition without question. These types of claims have little to no thought put in and can be both reasonable and unreasonable depending on the individual's viewpoint.
Loaded words: Loaded words are words that tend to invoke an emotional response. They are usually quite strong and can sway readers to one specific viewpoint vs. the other.
Logical Fallacies: Fallacies are a defect in logic that will weaken an argument. This is done when you make claims that are too strong to be able to support. This type of writing occurs when you have a strong feeling about a subject.
Module 5.7 Assignment: Final Project Video PlanningThe project's topic is on anything related to information technology, computer science trends, technology, and issues. We will create two projects: One 8-10 professional presentation to the class and a 2-5 minute video for the public.
