1.0 How do you plan to use what you learned in this class in your future academic and/or professional development?
This class has given me a greater understanding and a greater appreciation of how the operating system is able to be the conductor of the orchestra of many different pieces on the computer. I've learned a lot about using the command line interface and coding in the C language that I would never have done before. I've gotten very accustomed to using the terminal to navigate around my pc that i enjoy using it in a day to day basis. I hope to take all of the things I've learned in this class and build on more knowledge on top of that. Maybe in the future I will be working for a company that needs to utilize threads but in another language like Python and I will have a lot of knowledge on that subject from this class. I hope to continue reviewing so that I don't lose my skill and forget what i've learned so far because I've learned a lot in this class.
1.1 How did the Research Collaboration Exploration Project impact your viewpoint of research/professional opportunities available for students?
I did not realize there are many more opportunities out there in terms of a career in CS. I think I get so caught up with looking at the "big" companies that i forget the technology field has such a wide array of careers available and some of them might not be in the same limelight as these larger companies. I'm glad that I was able to research and learn more about the NSF and learn more about the other places like Berkeley Research lab that my group mates researched.
1.3 Review
I have learned a lot about persistence as my last journal post suggested. This is the last week of this course and I will take some time to review. Even though this class was rigorous, i wish that the lectures were more compact and that we had more lab assignments than busy work and reading. I liked the labs a lot and struggling and learning during those labs really helped my skill as a problem solver. I'm currently finishing up the last bits of homework and I will be studying and reviewing up until saturday.
